Searches with Quicksilver

TUAW posted a neat link about combining Quicksilver and YubNub for extremely customizable searches. I briefly played with this and found it to be pretty cool actually. Having not previously heard of YubNub, this was a learning experience for me. The highlight being that you can use a ‘mash’ command to search multiple sources for the same content at once. Check out the full walk through if you’re interested in the way this sounds.

However, I think it’s useful to point out that Quicksilver has an optional plugin called the Web Search Module. Once installed, you get a crapton of services to search, right at your fingertips. To see the massive list available, look here. In fact, you can bring up ‘websearches’ in Quicksilver and do a right arrow to get the full listing found in the link above, right in your Quicksilver pane. Of course you’ll probably narrow down the useful search sources and just memorize them. But it’s always nice to know you’ve got options, right?

As useful as the Web Search plugin may be, the YubNub version does offer some compelling capabilities if you know the commands. Definitely worth a read if you’re a Quicksilver/search nerd.
