Garmin c580, 680 GPS have a SPOT on them

Garmin_c580MSN Direct, the service for the SPOT-enabled device market (yes there is one), is still alive and kicking. I spotted this announcement in my e-mail over the weekend:

"MSN Direct and Garmin have joined forces to offer MSN Direct* service in Garmin portable navigation devices. This means you can receive the MSN Direct information that you need most while you’re on the go. With the Garmin nüvi® 680, Garmin StreetPilot® c580, and the MSN Direct Service now available in the U.S., you can receive traffic alerts, including road construction and incidents, find the closest stations with the lowest gas prices (for over 10,000 stations), check the weather, and even look up movie times and get directions to nearby theaters."

As a SPOT watch owner, I think a GPS device is probably a better fit for the MSN Direct service; I simply don’t wear a watch any more since there are clocks all around me or in just about every device I carry. If you grab the Garmin 680 or c580, you’ll get a one-year free MSN Direct subscription included. Maybe it’s time to give SPOT another look?
