Star News CEO Uday Shankar is slated to take over as the COO of Star India. Exchange4media reports that Shankar’s appointment is likely to be announced today. It looks like Shankar will be in charge the entire Star operations in India. The three Presidents at STAR — Paritosh Joshi, President-Sales, Ajay Vidyasagar who will be made President-Content & Communication, and Vijay Singh, President-Corporate Development & Strategy, will report to Shankar, Exchange4Media reports. Shankar will report to STAR Hong Kong and acting STAR India CEO Paul Aiello. (An earlier ET report suggested that Shankar was taking over as the CEO.)
What has paved the way for Shankar’s climb to the top job is the recent exits of Star CEOs — Peter Mukerjea (CEO, STAR Group) and Sameer Nair (CEO, STAR Entertainment). Shankar was earlier the News Director at Aaj Tak. He moved to Star News as a director in February 2004. Subsequently, he took over as the CEO of Star News.
Update: Star has announced the appointment of Shankar as the COO of its Indian operations.
