In the lastest move by airlines to extended the connected world to plane flights JetBlue is considering a service which will allow text messaging from its plane, notes FT, adding that the airline is wary of allowing voice calls. The move is described as “a way to boost revenues and differentiate their service”, suggesting some sort of premium is likely to be imposed. JetBlue bought radio spectrum earlier this year which could be used for the service. “European carriers are at the forefront of introducing mobile phone technology, with Air France-KLM due to start a six-month trial on short-haul routes, while Ryanair has announced plans to equip all of its aircraft to allow mobile phone use.”
