Lee Enterprises (NYSE: LEE), the publisher of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reported that 1Q net income came in at $11.9 million, or 26 cents per share, compared with $14.4 million, or 32 cents a share a year ago, a 2.5 percent drop. Meanwhile, total operating revenue for the quarter fell 1.7 percent to $261.7 million, while total ad revenue fell 2.2 percent. Additionally, the company said:
— Online revenue was $12.5 million, up 4.4 53.9 percent from $8.1 million a year ago.
— Total revenue for 1Q from continuing operations fell 1.7 percent from a year ago to $261.7 million.
— Total ad revenue decreased 2.2 percent, with online advertising up 53.9 percent and national down 8.3 percent.
— Combined print and online retail advertising decreased 1.5 percent, and classified advertising decreased 2.0 percent.
— Looking over its partnership with Yahoo HotJobs over the past two months, Lee reported it has received 30,000 postings from customers.
