Cisco Chief Development Officer Charlie Giancarlo has said that the company is working with Apple on “exploring a half-dozen ways their products can work together”. Cisco got Apple to the table by agreeing not to take it to court over the iPhone trademark back in February, but it’s still unclear how the two companies can (or will) work together — there doesn’t seem to be any plans to get Cisco’s home-based VoIP iPhone working with Apple. Instead, Seattlepi reports that “Cisco wants the Apple iPhone to work with its corporate phone systems, Giancarlo said. A partnership would allow users to get the same services, such as instant messaging and teleconferencing, on their Cisco desk phones and Apple iPhones”. I’m not sure what Cisco hopes to gain out of this…while some execs might buy the iPhone over another handset because it works with their business systems, it’s unlikely businesses will choose Cisco technology because it’s interoperable with Apple’s iPhones.
