Execs at MIPTV in Cannes were looking at the mobile TV industry in South Korea, trying to work out where the European market is going, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The article generally does a good job of outlining the state of play, but I was a little surprised by this quote: “Although reliable figures for the market are hard to come by, most analysts say there are at least 5 million mobile TV users in Italy”, whereas a month ago 3 Italia claimed 250,000 subscribers to its DVB-H service. While customers currently want sports and news services in Europe, but if the market follows the Sth Korean one as the audience gets used to the new technology it will start to demand more entertainment.
