Samsung and Nokia have agreed to work on interoperability of mobile TV under the DVB-H standard. This is touted as Samsung deciding to use Nokia’s DVB-H system by Reuters, but the interoperability is Samsung deciding to use the OMA-BCAST specification for DVB-H, which on Friday was endorsed by Nokia along with Digitenne, Ericsson, KPN, Nokia Siemens Networks, NXP Semiconductors, Sony Ericsson, Telefónica, O2 Europe, T-Mobile, Vodafone and ZTE… So although this is a case of Samsung saying its handsets will work with the Nokia network services system it would be unwise for Samsung to go against most of the industry. Samsung has launched handsets based on the CBMS OSF standard.
