Mobile Subscriber Numbers For March 2007; Stats From iSuppli Report

Metros: Total – 21,958,514; an increase of 637,007 or 2.98 percent
A’ Circle: Total – 42,680,298; an increase of 1,963,031 or 4.82 percent
B’ Circle: Total – 43,542,736; an increase of 2,470,357 or 6.01 percent
C’ Circle: Total – 13,249,618; an increase of 1,064,134 or 8.73 percent
All India: Total – 121,431,166; an increase of 6,134,529 or 5.32 percent

It’s interesting to note that B circles have the highest growth in absolute terms; even though the C circles have maximum growth in percentage terms, they still remain third in absolute terms. As per an iSuppli report [via release]:
– Monthly mobile subscriber additions averaged 5.5 million in 2006.
– Wireless subscriber base (inclusive of WLL) to triple by 2011, touching 484 million.
– As of December 2006, urban tele-density – around 40 percent ; Rural tele-density – around 2 percent.
– Total new legal handsets sold in India in 2006 was 69.3 million
– Approx 11 percent of the global mobile device unit shipments will be to India in 2001.
– Handset replacement rate is expected to grow to 25 percent by 2011.
– ARPU will drop to less than the $5 level by 2010.
