Yahoo India is looking to target Internet and mobile users in rural India. The company plans to provide information like local rain pattern, weather, availability of warehouses and rates, as well as basic health information. In expectation of an increase in the Internet population in rural India, the company is also planning to introduce basic e-commerce services via both the Internet and mobile (though there’s nothing on what “basic e-commerce means). More at Business Standard.
The information services seem similar to what Google India had announced for rural India. But do any of them know what rural India wants?
