April 15th: tax time and Tablet PC voting

Engadget_awardsIn our "better late than never" category, Engadget is running their 2006 Engadget Awards program and up for voting is the best Tablet PC of 2006. At rough count, I see about 4,300 votes for the five finalists, so if you haven’t voted yet, be sure to cast your ballot so we can hear those famous words: "Bring me your pen. The Tablet tribe has spoken!"

You only get to vote once and you have to vote (and file your taxes if you’re in the U.S.) by 11:59 pm on April 15th. The five finalists to choose from include: the Fujitsu P1610, the Gateway CX210 / M285, the Kohjinsha SA1F00, Lenovo’s X60 and the Toshiba Portege M400. Not to nit-pick, but I’m disappointed in the inclusion of the Kohjinsha; not that it’s a bad device by any means, but without any touch or pen input and running Windows XP Home Edition, should it really be a contender for Tablet PC of the Year? I would have liked to see on one of the UMPCs in the running in lieu of the SA1F00, but hey; it’s not my contest. ;)
