I have used a GPS system in my cars for the past 5 years or so and they are invaluable to me given the amount of driving I do each day. I find them useful for a number of reasons, guiding me to places I’ve never been before, finding alternate routes around traffic problems or construction, and helping me find businesses that are near my location. Dash Express is a new service that encompasses GPS hardware and a sort of mobile social network as it ties all those using a Dash Express GPS into a real-time traffic source. Users who encounter a traffic situation can send that information to the servers and instantly other Dash users will not only become aware of the problem but the Dash will suggest alternate routes in real time. Dash has previously been in a limited beta for 200 users in the San Francisco area but are now opening the program up for 2,000 testers nationwide. You can sign up on their web site, something I did as soon as I got word about the program. This sounds like it could be a very powerful tool for those who spend a lot of time on the road.
