Hindustantimes.com Overhauled; Video Content Launched, Blogs Soon

HindustanTimes.com has been overhauled (looks remarkably similar to the New York Times website), with some new features aimed at increasing interactivity: users can rate stories, add them to del.icio.us or Yahoo! IM links, offer feedback and upload photos to a Surfers gallery from which HT will pick up images for publishing. There’s been an improvement in usability, and I quite liked the introduction of a bread crumb navigation.
One key addition is video content, which we’re told is being sourced from the newswires.
Other features in the pipeline include blogs and audio content. Moderated user generated content, like that in case of the photos section, will increasingly come into play, sources tell us. The classifieds site hasn’t been ported to new design. HTs mobile content site 4242 is also due for a redesign.
I quite liked the fact that each section and sub-section apparently has its own RSS feed. Some personalization options have been allowed, though that requires registration. Users still aren’t allowed to comment on reports, which is disappointing – it would increase stickiness and also provide a platform for users to generate content that HT may publish; moderating comments would be quite a task, though…
NDTV.com is the other media portal to have undergone an overhaul recently.
