China’s CDC Mobile Offers “Free To Play, Pay For Merchandise” Mobile Gaming Scheme

CDC Mobile, a Chinese mobile services provider and business unit of CDC Corporation, may have a new and lucrative twist on the mobile gaming model. Rather than embrace ad-funded or fine-tune the pricing, the company has launched Mocca Beans, a “free to play, pay for merchandise” mobile game that lets users play for nothing but charges them when they want to buy tools to tinker or advance to higher levels within the game.
