At the sidelines of the ITU Forum, DS Mathur, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications told reporters that the 3G policy is likely to be announced by end of April, reports the Financial Express. He also said that the Air Force will release around 40 Mhz of spectrum by July, which will be divided equally between 2G and 3G. NDTV adds that a large chunk of the 40Mhz will be given to new licensees like Aircel and Idea. Apparently, those in industry believe that even if the policy is announced soon, licenses can only be awarded by the end of 2007. The policy is expected to be in line with TRAI recommendations.
