Mauj Telecom Gets A New CEO – Manoj Dawane

You’re reading it here first. Sources have confirmed to ContentSutra that Mauj Telecom has a new CEO. The new CEO is likely to be Manoj Dawane, formerly the COO of Uttaranchal and UP-West for Bharti Airtel. Airtel has confirmed to us that Manoj Dawane is no longer with the company. We’re currently awaiting a response from Mauj Telecom on the same.

Update:
We’ve just received a confirmation from Manoj Dawane that he’s joined at the CEO of People Infocom, otherwise known as Mauj Telecom. Dawane says that he’s seen the business from the other (operators) side, and as India moves from 150mn to 600mn subscribers in the next couple of years, the ancillary business has lots of scope. He’s joined with an equity stake ESOPS from the company, and has the mandate to first consolidate, then grow the business. Today was his first day with the company. Before joining Mauj, Dawane was with Airtel for three years – last as the COO of Uttaranchal and UP-West, before which he was the CMO for Mumbai Circle. Dawane had joined Airtel after four years at Hutchison Max.

We’d earlier broken the news to you about Arun Gupta resigning as the CEO of Mauj Telecom. Mauj Telecom provides mobile games, wallpapers, ringtones and other content. The company had recently signed a deal with Eros for Bollywood content. It has about $10 million in venture funding fom blue-chips VC funds such as WestBridge Capital, Intel Capital and Sequoia Capital.

Update: We’ve received an official confirmation of the same from Mauj. The release is, well, in the comments.

Corrigendum: Dawane has received ESOPS from Mauj Telecom, not an equity stake.
