Former CEO of STAR TV in Asia, Michelle Guthrie, has joined Providence Equity Partners as a managing director, reports PE Wire. Guthrie, based out of Hong Kong, would be focusing on Asia-Pacific opportunities of the fund. She will join from June 1. Guthrie’s appointment is significant since she is likely to focus on media deal flow in Asia. The private equity fund is also sharpening its focus in India as it recently opened office in Delhi (and also Hong Kong). Providence had also acquired a significant stake in Idea Cellular in a pre-IPO deal.
Guthrie joined the News Corporation-owned STAR in 2001 as a senior vice president, and became executive vice president in June 2003. She became the CEO in November 2003, which she occupied till she quit the company in January this year. Prior to joining STAR, Guthrie worked for FOXTEL in Australia and BSkyB and News International in the UK.
