Travel site Lastminute.com has launched some speaking phrasebooks developed by Cool Gorilla. It’s a pretty good idea for a mobile application since it allows people to put the phrasebook onto something they’re likely to be carrying anyway, especially with the new roaming rules being introduced by the EU. Of course, if the phone gets stolen there’s no way to tell the locals… The application costs 3 pounds (US$5.93) and contains between 250-300 phrases (it’s not a translation service) which people select from a menu. It’s currently in French, Spanish, German, Greek, Italian and Portuguese and more are planned, including from one non-English language to another. There’s a video demo here.
