After promising to launch a live TV component for three years, Sirius will finally bring such a service to the backseats of DaimlerChrysler cars and minivans later this year. The 2008 models include those in the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge lines, and sales of those cars will hit showrooms later this year.
The system will cost about $470, which includes the first year of service, when packaged with Chrysler’s rear-seat entertainment system in new cars. Customers will have to subscribe to Sirius separately. After that first year, TV service will be $7 a month in addition to the $13 a month for Sirius satellite radio. Release
Sirius, which plans to acquire its larger rival XM Satellite Radio, has an exclusive deal with Chrysler for the first year and can then begin offering it to other automakers after that.
The channels participating in the service include Nickelodeon, The Disney Channel and The Cartoon Network
