Mobile Provides A Return Path; What About The Internet?

In an interview with Business Standard, Naresh Gupta, Sr. VP (Print & Classic Publishing Solutions) and MD (R&D) Adobe India, says that the only way to sell in India is to get into mobiles. Adobe plans to replicate the business model they have adopted in the US, China and Japan in India, and expand their mobile and devices team to 50 by the end of the year. From this year onwards, Adobe intends to spend around $100 million in India for acquiring land and expanding campuses in Bangalore and Noida.
That’s an interesting statement – Mobile has a return path in terms of revenue via the operator, while online, one is largely dependent on credit card penetration or subscription to other payment mechanisms (Itz Card, Paymate and maybe MChek in the future). I wonder if there’s an opportunity for ISPs to tie up with online businesses and provide a payment mechanism to users. Another alternate is for one of the payment service providers to tie up with ISPs, so subscription doesn’t remain an issue. Whatsay?
