Reuters has drawn attention to a text-messaging competition run by LG Electronics, which it is billing as “the first organized text messaging competition for cash and other prizes”. It quite clearly isn’t — in 2004 Kimberly Yeo in Singapore won $17,500 in a text-writing competition, and I’m not sure that’s the earliest. What’s more contestants in the LG competition must own and use an activated LG enV or the V by LG handset, which has a qwerty keyboard. The US winner will get $25,000. (release)
