Orange UK has given its director of devices Matthew Kirk a new role as director of mobile and web portals, a new position designed to develop strategies for helping the telco’s content gateways compete with the likes of Virgin and MSN. Kirk previously had more of a technology emphasis. He will now lead a 120-strong editorial team, mad.co.uk reports. Orange has its Orange World mobile web platform and beefed up its web offering after acquiring French ISP Wanadoo last year – in giving news, sport and entertainment top billing on a page designed to be primary destination for its fixed-line broadband customers, Orange reduced the prominence of its mobile retail store, however.
