Hutchison To Launch 3G Network In Indonesia, Waits In India

Hutchison has announced the launch of its 3 brand in Indonesia. It has started PT Hutchison CP Telecom in partnership with the Charoen Pokphand Group, and will offer GSM services with a 3G network in Jakarta initially with its network covering most of the Java Island — It will expand into Sumatra this year and then the islands of Kalimantan and Sulawesi by the end of 2008. Indonesia has an estimated 245 million people and a relatively low penetration rate, and Hutchison is hoping to grab a share of the coming growth. (release)
In India the government has deferred (again) approval for the sale of Hutchison’s stake in Hutchison Essar to Vodafone, reports Reuters.
