Jaipur Also To Be WiFi’ed…But By When?

Earlier, we’d heard that Connought Place in Delhi would be WiFi by Jan 1 2007. That still hasn’t happened. Over the past year or so, we’ve come across several reports on cities being WiMax’ed and WiFi hotspots being created. I spoke to one service provider operating in this domain a few days ago, and he says that it’s just not viable for cities to be WiMax’ed yet, and there are doubts about whether WiFi hotspots would yield returns either. So far, their clients are primarily corporates, and that’s the way it seems the market will remain for the next couple if years. He also said that 3G isn’t going to happen anytime soon – it will take two to three years.
Now, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan has announced that Jaipur is going to be made WiFi in phases, reports Business Standard. No timeline has been mentioned.
