Mobile Europe has a piece by Heather McLean about her time at 3GSM and the discussions around mobile TV — which standard to use and so on. The article covers a lot of the issues, but the most salient point comes from Peter MacAvock, executive director at the DVB Project, who said: “Everyone is talking about technology for mobile TV. What we should really be talking about is the combination of what frequencies do I have available, then what technologies do I have available to use in that frequency.” The problem of spectrum is a perennial one, and likely to remain until analog TV gets switched off.
