Updated: Mobile Avatar Firm Pulse Gets $7 Million Second Round

Updated with more details and updated figures from Pulse president Jeff Lipton: Pulse Entertainment, the SF-based company which develops mobile avatars called “Veepers” (now trying to position itself as user-generated mobile content..hah) has raised around $7 million of an $8.5 million second round, reports PEHub.
Return backers include Anthem Venture Partners and Draper Associates. New investors in this round included Shea Ventures, and Hikari Tsushin of Japan, and also includes several other Asian and European investors.
Pulse has raised approximately $60 million in total VC funding since its 1994 inception, says the story. Lipton told me the company recapped in 2004 and raised a round after that, so this is technically the second round after the recap.
It has recently done a deal with Cingular, including for the ongoing NCAA basketball finals. It is working with them on a Final Four promotion that will run from March 26th through April 2nd and be featured at CTIA as well as at the Final Four event in Atlanta through special kiosks in the ‘Hoop Town’ area of the venue.
