A tiny item in Variety yesterday noted Brad Hunt, Motion Picture Association of America executive vice president and CTO, is moving on “to pursue new business and entrepreneurial opportunities.” If you don’t remember, it was in a moment of candor during a conference Q&A last Fall that Hunt admitted, “I understand that if we frustrate the consumer, they will simply pirate the content.”
On the other hand, it was just a few months before that where he gave a speech about the need to “fill the analog hole,” which is actually even dirtier than it sounds. The full announcement [PDF] notes that a replacement has yet to be named.
Hunt, the first ever CTO for the MPAA, had a background primarily in post production technology and business management, according to this speaker bio from the February meeting of the Hollywood Post Alliance. We have to wonder where he will turn up.
