The Guardian has a story covering the two rumors-de-jour, the iPhone and Google phone. While Google is downplaying any plans to launch its own handset this article claims the company has held talks with telcos including Telefonica (which runs O2 in Europe) about producing a “GPhone”, and has hired the team who created the Sidekick mobile device.
Apple now admits it has a phone in the works, and speculation has moved on to which telcos it will partner with. Apparently it’s looking to secure a single pan-European network to launch the iPhone in Europe, with Vodafone coming out as an early front-runner. There’s a couple of other companies in multiple countries across Europe, but Vodafone has the widest breadth — whether it’s prepared to accept the terms Apple wants is another matter.
