It’s been a while since there has been news of religious institutions embracing new media: the Economic Times reports that the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the custodian of the Lord Venkateshwara temple plans to start a mobile hundi (collection box) to enable mobile donations. Currently, donations through the regular collection box are at around Rs.300 crore (around $68 milion) every year, and one should expect an increase in donations once they’re on the mobile. The TTD also sources commodities, awards engineering tenders, and auctions hair online.
