National Geographic has bought out TheGreenGuide, the website and print newsletter geared toward providing consumers with information on how to lead a more environmentally-aware life, reports THR. TGG is based in NYC, and besides the website has a 12-page bimonthly print newsletter. It was founded in 1994 by Mothers & Others for a Livable Planet, a nonprofit organization born out of a 1989 Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) consumer campaign to reduce dangerous pesticides in children’s diets.
Also, the company has promoted Betsy Scolnik to be its new president of digital media…she will oversee all of digital media and business initiatives, including NationalGeographic.com, the organization’s digital film archive, shortform video programming, production and distribution and TheGreenGuide. Scolnik replaces Chris McAndrews..she first joined NGDM as VP content, in September 2005.
