Reuters is reporting on a study by the Pew Research Center claiming that US Latinos were less likely to go online than the general society, and linking this to education. I went looking for the report (here in PDF) to see if they counted the use of the mobile internet. They did, although not in-depth: “However, Hispanics are less likely than non-Hispanic whites to own a cell phone. Fully 75 percent of non-Hispanic white adults have a cell phone and 31 percent of white cell phone users send and receive text messages on their phone. 13 By comparison, 59 percent of Latino adults have a cell phone and 49 percent of Latino cell phone users send and receive text messages on their phone. Looking at the numbers in a different way, 56 percent of Latino adults go online, 18 percent of Latino adults have a cell phone but do not go online, and 24 percent of Latino adults have neither a cell phone nor an internet connection.” Latinos tend to be above-average users of mobile content, to the extent that they’re targeted pretty strongly as a desirable demographic.
Interestingly, a Horowitz study showed that Latinos have higher than average broadband penetration reports Marketing y Medios.
