The Playstation Store, Sony’s online market for casual games and content delivery for the PS3, is kind of a confusing mess at the moment. With a relatively weak lineup of content so far, there isn’t really anything to get excited about or even make you want to click on the store icon in the PS3 menu. Is that going to change, and if so, how long will it take? Maybe Warhawk will help… if it gets released.
When Microsoft started Live, Sony and Nintendo showed no interest in the concept of a pay gaming network. Then, when Microsoft released Live Arcade and the downloads started picking up, it was then time for Nintendo and Sony to join suit. Nintendo’s Virtual Console is, so far, a hit, but that may be thanks to a huge back catalog of games to choose from that suit themselves to quick downloads. The Playstation Store, well, that’s a different story. So far we’ve seen a few demos, some PSP games, a couple of casual games and some HD movie trailers. In fact, with the exception of fl0w, not much has been going on in the store. That’s about to change… maybe.
Recently, there’s been some confusion as to whether or not Warhawk, a new entry into the line of Warhawk games by Incognito, is going to be released via Blu-ray or in the Playstation Store. In a recent report by Opposable Thumbs, Phil Harrisson reportedly said to expect Warhawk in the Playstation Store, but there are conflicting reports coming from elsewhere inside Sony. Apparently, a representative for Sony stated that the game will be seeing a Blu-ray release and will not be available for download. Now, isn’t that confusing? What’s going on inside of Sony? This much confusion is never good for an upcoming title.
