TMZ.com To Launch DC Spinoff Called TMZDC

TMZ.com, after wreaking havoc covering second-by-second shenanigans of Hollywood celebrities, is planning to do the same for Washington DC…the part-AOL-owned site recently started working on a TV spinoff and now this. Harvey Levin, the former TV reporter who started the operation, plans to focus on the foibles of members of Congress, administration officials and media personalities, Howard Kurtz reports in WaPo.
Levin has been meeting with people here in an effort to find a D.C. bureau chief and build a network of freelancers who will contribute material for the new site, to be known as TMZDC (Warner Bros. Entertainment already has the name registered). In some senses it would be following Gawker Media’s footsteps, which started with NYC and then launched Wonkette for DC.
And then, Kurtz does a rather naive job analyzing why DC may or may not make sense as a gossip-worthy town…that quesiton was answered long time ago by Wonkette.
