Mobile game developer Spiel Studios, which had earlier signed up Bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, has now inked a deal with former Crickter Vinod Kambli for developing and distributing games based on him for a three year period, as per a release. I wonder what came first – the game or the deal?
Anyway, we’ve said often that we’d rather see real innovation in game development from India instead of the use of celebrities to sell new versions of old games. So why do game developers keep signing up celebrities? Insight, by means of a quote from Salil Bhargava, CEO of Jump Games in this article in Business Standard:
“Celebrities have a longer shelf life of 2-3 months for mobile games as compared to a shelf life of 2-3 weeks for an unbranded game”
