Global technology consultancy Accenture has acquired the French mobile music and video content distributor Digiplug from Japan’s Faith Inc in a bid to strengthen Accenture’s Digital Media Services division, which helps clients produce and distribute rich media content. Digiplug supplies music and video delivery services to record labels, mobile operators and handset manufacturers. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Accenture spokesperson Tom Olson told Computer Business Review that the deal marks a strong foray into the mobile content market. The newly formed Digital Media Services group will encompass Digiplug’s business and its own offerings in that area. Olson said the Accenture has worked with some of the large U.S. entertainment studios on projects. With Digiplug, Accenture hopes to round out more of its consulting and outsourcing offerings for content providers, distributors and mobile companies. Release.
James: It should also be noted as yet another move in Faith’s withdrawal from the North American and European mobile content markets.
