Eric Grilly, the head of online operations at MediaNews Group, is jumping ship to become president of Philly.com, the site The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News. In his new role, Grilly will be responsible for all digital operations including strategy, content, and new product development.
Grilly had been at MediaNews in 1999…he was one of the key people behind the Yahoo-led newspaper classifieds deal consortium…the newspaper side has been led by MNG CEO Dean Singleton and his lieutenant Grilly.
According to an internal memo sent out by MNG CEO Dean Singleton, and obtained by us, the company will search for a new online head. “We do want to reaffirm that we still believe that our recently announced change in reporting structure in which our website leaders report through MNGi is still appropriate given the strategic challenges we face. More about that at our May management meeting. We will begin the search for Eric’s replacement immediately.”
