Broadcast Australia Not Too Keen On Mobile TV Spectrum

Broadcast Australia, a subsidiary of Macquarie Bank, has presented a convincing case for mobile TV at the Broadcasting Summit in Sydney Australia, according to The Australian, but won’t commit to bidding for the upcoming spectrum which will likely be used to provide it. “We haven’t made our mind up as to whether we’ll be bidding for Channel B…We don’t necessarily need to be the owner of the licence to be working within that arena,” said Martin Farrimond from the company.
This wouldn’t be much of an issue, but the Australian incumbent telco Telstra has also indicated it’s not really interested in the spectrum. There’s still 6-9 months to go before the auction, but if the big guys remain dismissive there’s a chance for a smaller company to get in.
