News Corp. finally has named a successor to Peter Levinsohn as head of digital media: Dan Fawcett is returning to Fox as president of Fox Digital Media for the Fox Entertainment Group after several years at News Corp.’s DirecTV. Fawcett “will further the growth and evolution of digital media strategy, including exploiting Fox content across all digital platforms, pursuing long-term tactical initiatives with major technology players and developing additional revenue streams for Fox product.” The post had been vacant since Levinsohn moved to Fox Interactive Media last November but that didn’t stop the group from making a series of significant deals.
Fawcett spent the last three years as EVP-programming and business & legal affairs at DirecTV; before that he was EVP-business and legal affairs for Fox Cable Networks. He joined Fox in 1997 at Fox Sports Net. News Corp. is in the process of swapping its shares in DirecTV with Liberty Media.
