User-generated location news aggregator Platial has closed its first round of financing with $2.4 million. KeyNote Ventures led the round and was joined by existing investors Kleiner Perkins, Caufield & Byers, Omidyar Network, Ram Shriram, Ron Conway and others, Venture Magazine reported. The Portland, OR-based company, which bills itself as “the people’s atlas,” aggregates stories, reviews and multimedia about places from individuals around the world. The financing closes just as the site is preparing to update its primary social net application, MapKit. Platial is also planning on formalizing a series of new partnerships. Release.
