The Tribune Company continues to inch closer to a decision on whether to sell its entire company, but in the interim, as expected, it has agreed to sell its two smallest newspapers, both in Connecticut, to Gannett for more than $65 million, the WaPo reports.
Tribune offered the Greenwich Time and Stamford Advocate to two prospective buyers, Gannett and MediaNews, the story says. Gannett eventually outbid MediaNews for the two papers, which report a combined circulation of 39,623. The details of the deal are still being settled.
Meanwhile, Chicago real estate mogul Sam Zell has publicly acknowledged that he is making a bid for Tribune, Crain’s Chicago (via Reuters) reported.
