@ MPA: Dennis Publishing And Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Promote Sites With User-Content

More magazines and websites will explore their separate qualities, mainly by giving readers more control over website content, Susan Lyne, president and CEO of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia said during an MPA morning session moderated by Larry Kramer, advisor for CBS Interactive. She was joined in her assessment by Stephen Colvin, president and CEO of Dennis Publishing. Both discussed their companies’ respective plans to differentiate their web and print properties In the case of MSLO hub Marthastewart.com, the company will relaunch March 10 with social networking features that Lyne said will allow the publications to have more of a direct dialog with its readers. “We know that web and print are different, they function differently and they’re used differently,” Lyne said. “Why are we still treating these two mediums as if they’re the same thing? The more they act in tandem, the more limited they are in what they can do.”
Meanwhile, Dennis Publishing, which announced its intention to sell-off its magazines Stuff, Maxim and Blender two weeks ago, will try to find new ways of integrating user-gen content, Colvin said. Perhaps as a way of enhancing the sale, Maxim will launch MyMaxim.com next month. The new site will let users customize the homepage’s video and photo offerings.
