Rodale, the owner of Runner’s World magazine, has acquired that publication’s rival, Fitness Publishing’s Running Times. Rodale will take control of the magazine’s website and branded media properties. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Rather than combine the two running brands, Rodale insisted that Running Times magazine and website continue to operate under its own brand, and will remain independent. The only area of combination is the sharing of each brand’s respective databases of race events to provide a single source for racers — and of reader information. Runner’s World, with its 10 editions and website, reaches around 3.6 million readers around the world. Running Times, meanwhile, claims roughly 400,000 monthly readers in print and online. Rodale also implied that there will not be editorial cutbacks because of the acquisition, saying it will bring additional resources to the Running Times editorial and design teams.Release
