Jewish Social Net Company Koolanoo Raises $3 Million

Koolanoo Ltd., which bills its Koolanoo.com as the world’s first online Jewish social network, received $3 million in funding in a first round financing led by Israeli firm Giza Venture Capital, Globes Online reported. Other investors in Koolanoo, which launched in Aug. 2006, are private individuals. Oded Kobo and Guy Greenberg, Koolanoo’s founders, say the company is developing a platform for social networks and video sharing, as well as marketing tools. The company already operates a site in China, 360Quan.com, and plans to launch social networks for other religious and ethnic groups, according to social net blog Mashable. Koolano.com has more than 10,000 registered users, according to the Giza blog.
— For those of you wondering if this is yet another Web 2.0 name, Koolanoo in Hebrew means “all of us.”
