Ericsson Makes Bid for Norway’s Tandberg Television

Ericsson is offering $1.4 billion cash for Norway’s Tandberg Television, as it looks to broaden its online multimedia services, the AP reported. Ericsson owns 11.7 percent of Tandberg and said holders of another 13 percent have agreed to the offer.
Ericsson said the bid, which is 10 percent higher than the one made in January by U.S. broadband tech company Arris Group, would help it achieve its goal of being a leading IPTV and broadband content provider. The Arris offer was seen by some as dubious from the beginning as Ericsson seemed to be waiting in the wings, preparing to make a larger bid for Tandberg, which is known for its video solutions for online and mobile networks.
