Tiscali U.K. CEO Mary Turner has slammed claims that the internet and telephony operator is for sale and says she plans to make the company one of the U.K.’s leading on-demand TV companies, report FT. The CEO of Tiscali’s UK unit, which last year contributed 66 percent of the Italian internet group’s revenues, said she plans to make its internet TV and telephony services available to more than 10 million homes by the end of 2007.
Tiscali, which acquired IPTV firm Homechoice for around GBP50 million last August, plans to extend the service beyond its existing London customer base of 50,000 to Newcastle, Birmingham and Edinburgh by the end of May and Leeds, Sheffield and Liverpool by the end of June.
According to industry experts Tiscali may also struggle to compete with BSkyB and Virgin Media in terms of content when they fully get behind the rollout of VOD services.
