Telus Offers Adult Content

Canadian telco Telus has added an “adults only” section to its portal, making it the first in North America to do so according to the New York Times. The service offers images of naked men and women for CA$3 (US$2.60) or short video clips for CA$4. Although the site wasn’t advertised it drew the attention of Archbishop Raymond Roussin of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver, British Columbia who has called for a boycott of the telco — which is what operators in North America have been worried about. In fact, the adult section was added to the portal last month, but is only in the news now that the Archbishop has brought it to everyone’s attention.
As for why it was added…”Jim Johannsson, a Telus spokesman in Edmonton, Alberta, said the company decided to offer the new service after reviewing its customers’ mobile Web browsing habits. The company found, he said, that 13 of the 25 most-popular sites were what he called “adult content”.” Of course, anyone with an open connection to the internet can get adult content anyway…
