Equipment manufacturer Huawei is planning a mobile music service for its customers, and has signed a deal with independent digital distributor The Orchard. The new service is dubbed Active Music Offering (AIMI) and will provide operators with a private-label digital music service which can be customized based on demographic and customer segmentation, and location. While The Orchard has a diverse catalogue, it is by nature independent — so I think Huawei will have to sign up some/all of the big labels to get a viable service going. (release)
