Bank of India (BOI) has financed 162 ‘e-grama’ centers in Davangere, Mysore and Belgaum districts of Karnataka, and has plans for more in rural districts in Karnataka and Gujarat. In Karnataka, 1500 kiosks have been planned for seven districts – Bidar, Haveri, Chitradurga, Gulbarga, Tumkur, Bangalore Rural and Bijapur. The kiosks offer on banking information, as well as information on developments in the agricultural center, and government schemes and subsidies. More at HBL and Mangalorean.com.
Looks like an initiative to market to rural consumers by offering information that rural consumers can use, and simultaneously offering information on banking services.
