Eidos, the company behind Tomb Raider and Hitman, has announced that it plans to release more mobile verisons of its console hits. Last year we saw the release of mobile games based on the Tomb Raider, Hitman and Championship Manager franchises. This means more jobs in Eidos mobile development department and possibly more income for the company in the way of mobile sales.
Along with the announcement of “more to come” from Eidos Media and IT director, Simon Protheroe, the company has already announced the release of a property based on the PSOne game Pandemonium, due out sometime next month. “We’re supporting our console releases with mobile versions of the games like Tomb Raider and Hitman, whilst also exploring the other mobile opportunities with our IPs,” said Protheroe in a statement to Mobile Industry. “This way we can offer the consumer other ways to access their favourite games and games characters – so if you can’t get enough of your favourite Eidos game on your console, then you can play the mobile version on your way to work.”
Mobile gaming is a huge source of revenue for a lot of companies nowadays, but can it work for Eidos? With greatly varying scores (Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex scored a average of 85% while Hitman: Blood Money pulled in a 55% accoridng to Game Rankings), it really depends on the quality of their games. The release of the new Pandemonium should be a good indicator. We’ll have to keep an eye on that one.
