Moser Baer Home Video Launches In Karnataka With New Film Titles

For all of us who were speculating that Moser Baer’s DVD business is going to be hampered because they’re only going to have old titles, here’s news: the Economic Times reports that of the 101 titles that Moser Baer has launched in Karnataka, two films are new – Malla and Aham Premasmi. Moser Baer has a catalogue of 101 Kannada films, and 18 titles have been released as DVDs. They have 40 distributors in Karnataka, at present.
From what I’ve heard, Moser Baer has also been in talks with movie studios for a nationalwide launch with new releases. According to the report, Moser Baer has plans to launch new Hindi titles in March, and the idea is to release new films just four weeks after the theatrical release. We’re not going into the rental business, Moser Baer Executive Director Ratul Puri had told me last week. I wonder what kind of a content mix Nimbus has planned for its rental business…it could turn out to be a convenience-related game – on whether people would prefer to watch a movie within 30 minutes of ordering it, or buy it off the shelf to own it.
